How To Apply

Deadline: All materials must be post marked by Thursday, January 31, 2008 and awards will be announced Monday, March 3, 2008

Awards will be given to applicants in four categories: Outstanding Youth Scholarship Award; Outstanding Youth Award; Outstanding Educator Award; Outstanding Citizen Award. To apply, candidates must submit:

• a one-page (250 word) essay
• a nomination form
• two letters of support

Documentation such as copies of photos, newspaper clippings, awards and school grades may be included with the letters but will not be returned. Candidates must be nominated by one person and sponsored by at least two others who have personal knowledge of the candidate, but may not be family members. To nominate a candidate, fill out the nomination form and attach a letter of support. All candidates must be able to attend the 12th Annual Spirit of Anne Frank Awards ceremony, which will take place on Thursday June 12, 2008 at “The Pierre Hotel” in New York City. The Anne Frank Center, if necessary, will provide transportation and overnight stay.

Application Requirements

Personal Essay
Applicants are required to write a one page (250-word) essay describing a contribution they have made to society in the spirit of Anne Frank. The essay should reflect upon a personal experience that demonstrates a commitment to peace, taking a stand against discrimination of any type, reaching out under served community members, or working within an organization that brings diverse people together. 

Nomination Criteria
Nominators are often mentors or colleagues who have aided or assisted in the development of a talented individual as they rose to a position of community leadership through educational programming or other creative endeavors.  The nominator must inform the applicant of their need to write the personal essay, fill out the nominator application, and identify two sponsors within a community who are able to write strong letters of support.

Sponsorship Criteria
Two sponsors must write letters of support detailing knowledge of the applicant and their accomplishments, and their role in the development of the applicant’s talent, and any specific hardships the applicant has overcome.
