Michele PinczukSixteen year-old Michele Pinczauk created the program “Beauty & Quality of Life” to reach out to young girls suffering from serious illnesses after enduring health battles of her own. Michele understood that, when an adolescent girl has an illness, she may view herself as drastically changed due to treatment side effects such as weight gain caused by steroid use and hair loss from chemotherapy.

“Beauty & Quality of Life” enables young girls battling illnesses to feel beautiful inside and out while enduring these harsh side effects – even during long hospital stays. As part of the Starlight Mid-Atlantic Foundation, partnered by Bloomingdale’s, Michele’s program provides cheerful events, including celebrity guest speakers, slumber parties, dances, makeovers, and spa days, for sick teens.

In addition, Michele works as a professional journalist for various publications such as JVibe magazine and The New York Times, where she writes about domestic violence, environmental conservation, and gay and lesbian rights among other complex topics. Michele is also an award-winning filmmaker who has the distinction of being the youngest person to have a film screened at the prestigious Festival de Cannes in France. Her documentary film shorts include interviews with Holocaust survivors regarding the establishment of a Jewish homeland as well as teenagers engaging in a dialogue about perceptions of freedom.

She is the grandchild of Holocaust survivors.
