Teaching Artist

Much of the value of our educational programs emerges from the diverse experiences and perspectives our team members bring to the communities we serve. Whether specializing in writing, visual arts, performance, or other creative outlets, our Teaching Artists connect Anne Frank’s message to the contemporary experiences of youth today.

 

The AFC has ongoing needs for enthusiastic, experienced, and capable educators to bring our multi-week residency programs to K-12 schools. The focus of our workshops varies, but all help share Anne Frank’s story as a model to help students understand the power of being themselves, make sense of the world around them, and set goals to fulfill their dreams as changemakers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage students through interactive lessons that provide historical accuracy, context, and opportunity for meaningful connection

  • Encourage students to apply their understanding to their own lives

  • Foster reflection, confidence, and creative self-expression

  • Teach tools for students to appreciate diversity, confront adversity, and becomes leaders in defense of human compassion

  • Plan and set up student exhibitions as necessary, with on-site teachers and colleagues

  • Submit weekly lesson plans, student/teacher evaluations, time sheets, and other administrative documentation

  • Collaborate with fellow AFC education staff and teaching artists

  • Report to Director of Education to deliver and enhance the curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree preferred. Certification a plus but not required

  • Minimum of 3 years as a professional Teaching Artist, with K-12 experience

  • Preference given to background in teaching literacy and history through the arts

  • Ability to travel throughout the NYC metro area and be punctual

  • Professionalism, team mentality, and flexibility

Education intern

The Anne Frank Center seeks an undergraduate intern for its Education department. The candidate will assist the department with research, outreach, curriculum development, communication with partners, exhibition sales, scheduling, and other tasks as assigned. The candidate must be enrolled in an undergraduate program in the NYC metro area, with a major in History, Education, Political Science, or similar, be proficient in online research, and have an understanding of educational practices. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, education, and/or the arts preferred. Bi-lingual a plus.

Commitment: approx. 24hrs / week, negotiable schedule.

School Credit:

Where available, AFC will comply with all university requirements so the student may receive full credit.

Events & Publicity intern

The Anne Frank Center seeks an undergraduate Events and Publicity intern. The candidate will assist the organization with the planning and execution of the annual gala, public programs, and online communications. Experience with graphic design and social media is a bonus. The candidate must be enrolled in an undergraduate program and live in the NYC metro area with a major in Communications, Political Science, History, or similar. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, education, and/or the arts preferred. Bi-lingual a plus.

Commitment: approx. 24hrs / week, negotiable schedule.

Seeking philanthropists, scholars, business professionals, educators, and community leaders interested in contributing your expertise to an educational nonprofit. The Anne Frank Center greatly depends on the dedication of a wide range of volunteers, including our Board of Directors, who provide strategic vision, philanthropy, networking, and oversight of those entrusted with the fulfillment of our mission.

 

AFC Board Members serve as ambassadors of the organization, helping to promote our programs, identify funding sources, and establish connections within the communities we serve. Board members attend several meetings throughout the year, help host events when available, serve on planning committees, and fundraise on the organization's behalf. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, education, and/or the arts is presumed.
